Choosing where you get married is the first big decision, and the one that shapes almost every other. If you are after nature, mountains and open air without leaving Madrid behind, the Sierra de Guadarrama is probably the best balance you will find near the city. Why get married in the Sierra de Guadarrama rather than in central Madrid?

Because you get what a city venue cannot offer (nature, open skies, quiet) without making your guests travel far. The sierra is a National Park: pine forests, granite and views that work as a backdrop without you having to decorate much. And it sits right next to Madrid, 44 kilometres from the capital.

That closeness changes the whole wedding. Older guests are not worn out by the drive, those coming from abroad land at Barajas and arrive in under an hour, and nobody has to stay overnight out of obligation. The sierra gives you the special setting without the logistics of a destination wedding.

How far is it from Madrid and how do guests get there?

• By car: A-6 towards A Coruña, exit 42 (Guadarrama). 35 minutes from central Madrid, 55 from Barajas airport.

Which time of year suits a wedding in the sierra?

How much does a wedding at an estate near Madrid cost?

There is no single price, and it is worth being wary of anyone who gives you one without asking anything. The cost depends above all on the season and the day (a Saturday in May is not the same as a Friday in February), the number of guests (almost everything is worked out per person), the catering line chosen and the extras (open bar, civil ceremony, decor, accommodation).
